Art by definition is: 'The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power' http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/art
Art connects people and lets us express how we feel inside. Art is all around us and is everywhere we look, and is always changing. Art can be dance, music, paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography, anything really. I guess it just depends on how you look at it. Art is the creation of the artist's imagination and an expression of who they are.

What do you think of art? Are you excited about this class or does it make you freak out a bit?
I think that art is a way to express my feelings and it gives me a chance to show my inner emotions. Our world would be a dull and boring place with no expression if we didn't have art. With art, I can show people an outward expression of who I am inside. I like art because it helps me show my creativity which would otherwise be hidden away.
In the beginning of the year I was really excited to start the class and learn new things. I can still say that everyday I look forward to art class and that it is my favourite of all of my classes. I like being able to learn new skills in art that I would have not acquired had I not taken it. I love art and I am happy that I get the opportunity to learn more about it. :)

Why the lion is the king of the jungle myth
A very long time ago, in the jungles of Walakabo there lived a lion named Lenny. Lenny was a vegetarian and friends with everyone. He was nice, smart and always did what was right. One day all of the animals started fighting because they didn’t have anyone in charge to keep everything in line. Lenny came up with a great idea and spent 3 days and 3 nights building an obstacle course for all of the animals to compete in. The obstacle course had tubes made out of hallowed out trees, swinging vines over quick sand, a big pile of rocks blocking the path, and a trench dug out at the end of it.. After he was finished he showed everyone what he had built. Lenny explained that whoever won the race through the course would be the ‘King of the jungle’. All of the animals thought it was a smart idea and got ready to race. Everyone raced except for Lenny. At the end of the race it was a tie between Timmy the tiger and Ziko the zebra. Ziko and Timmy fought and fought until everybody had enough. “Stoooop!” Lenny roared and there was silence. “You should just both be king.” he said but the other animals didn’t think that it would work. Everyone gathered together that night to discuss who should be the ‘King of the jungle’, however Lenny went home to sleep, he was tired out from all of the work he’d done. The next day all of the animals in the jungle waited outside of Lenny’s den until he woke up. “What are you guys doing here so early?” he asked half asleep.
“We’re here to crown you as the “King of the jungle ’ ! ”Annie the armadillo exclaimed.
Lenny was speechless and didn’t know what to do. “Thank you all so much ,” he finally said “but why did you choose me?”
Kiara the koala replied “You are always nice to everybody and know just what to do when something goes wrong!”
“Yeah , last night we all got together and decided if someone has to be king it should be you ! ”Izzy the iguana beamed.
“Wow this is a great honor!” Lenny said, and the all celebrated with a big dinner and had a great time .Since then lions have been referred to as the ‘Kings of the jungle’ and that is how it all started .

If you click the link above ^ it will take you to Bridget Rileys "Cataract 3" artwork.
Even though this piece of art uses only lines and color, it is really interesting to look at. Throughout the whole piece the use of curved lines is consistant. Every line is horizontal and they start off thick shrink to thin and then grow back to thick along the whole page. On the top of the painting the lines are a dark faded purple color that have a lighter lavender purple color underneath them. As you go down the picture the color of the lines change about halfway to a red coupled with the dark purple and followed by a white, that pattern goes on until a third of the page is left. The bottom of the page has the same colors as the top which creates a pleasing image. The lines of the painting are really close together and it looks like they are raised fron and lowered into the canvas. All of the lines create an image that appears to be wavy and like little hills all over the page. I really like this painting and i hope youthink my description sees fit :)

My First Blogpost
Ok so I have never made a blog before and this is my first attempt. My art teacher told our class to make blogs to share our art with the world. I think art is a way to express your feelings or to show your emotions and this is a great way to do that. I haven't had much experience with painting, drawing or art in general so I am excited about what this blog will turn out to be. I work well in groups, try my best and can grasp new concepts well. I find it hard to work in loud environments because it is hard to focus on what I am doing. Thanks for taking your time to read my blog and I will be posting some of my artwork soon. :)
